The ADAS/AD controller is the “brain” of the vehicle processing and fusing data from cameras, radars and other sensors to build up a surrounding 3D environmental model, interpret the situation and take action, such as emergency braking, changing lanes or seek attention from the driver.
Whereas the current compute technologies are processing and fusing sensor data on detection or object level the next generation of Veoneer’s central compute units (CCU) will support centralized multi vision processing for front camera, surround view and driver monitoring computer vision as well as low level signal processing of other ADAS sensors e.g. radar, ultrasonic and lidar. Based on a generic platform development Veoneer will be able to offer an open and scalable compute architecture supporting all customer requirements from basic general safety regulation and NCAP up to SAE level 3.
This new generation of high-performance computer is based on Qualcomm Technologies’ next generation Snapdragon Ride™ platform and responds to the mega trend towards software defined vehicles which requires new electrical and electronic vehicle architectures using zonal compute units and highspeed ethernet back bones to enable over the air updates and software on demand services.
The combination of Qualcomm Technologies’ market leading Snapdragon Ride platform and Veoneer’s long-standing excellence in automotive grade hardware and software integration is one important key differentiator and supports our mission to build trust into mobility.
