Restraint Control Systems

When a crash cannot be avoided, Veoneer’s Restraint Control Systems (RCS) trigger the vehicle’s passive safety system.

Veoneer Safety Systems

Passive safety systems employ an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and various RSUs (Remote Sensor Units) to sense and trigger pre-crash and in-crash occupant protections (such as tightening safety belts and deploying airbags) when the system judges a collision has occurred.

The ECU contains acceleration and gyroscopic sensors and is normally mounted on rigid structure in a central location, while the RSUs are mounted in various peripheral locations such as frontal structures, door beams and pillars, door cavities, etc.  RSUs contain sensors that measure acceleration or pressure changes and help to enable early and appropriate deployment of the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Critical crash information is transmitted over e-call to emergency services and recorded for post-crash analysis in the Event Data Recorder (EDR).

A colleague received the phone call every parent fears
